Policies, Organisations and Laws of Child Abuse

Childline is the largest free confidential service in the UK where young people are able to receive counselling sessions via phone calls, online chats and emails (GOV UK, 2020). Based on communications from children in contact with Childline, many campaigns have been created to help individuals with their problems by providing several measures of support.

Speak Up Be Safe - This organisation uses an ecological approach by providing appropriate curriculum materials to help prepare children to prevent cycles of neglect, child abuse and bullying throughout school years (ChildHelp, 2020). In focusing on building resistance skills and recognising abusive behaviours, this has suggested to be effective as it increases the knowledge of children's ability to recognise unsafe situations.

Several laws are put in place to protect young children from being victims of crime.

Children and Young Persons Act 1933 was created to cover a variety of conduct involved with children in the UK. This act is generally set to prosecute offenders for the mistreatment, neglect, failure to protect and abandonment of children (GOV UK, 2017).

The Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act of 1988 was introduced in America to provide financial help for child abuse prevention programs and establishing a good support system (CWIG, 2019). This has proved to be extremely effective in introducing beneficial programs to impact young people.
